昔、めでたく大漁の時に、丘で待つ仲間や家族に大漁を知らせ、

また積みきれない程の魚を運ぶのを仲間に助けてもらうための合図に、

船に掲げた大きな旗を、大漁旗と言います。

沖合いの遠くからでも目立つように派手な色や柄が使われていました。

This derives from those boat flags used by the old Japanese fishermen

to signal to their loved ones that they had a great catch.

Bold colors were eye-grabbing among the most powerful waves,

and portraying a dominating presence that stood

against the strongest winds.
